"I meet strangers at other strangers houses when they aren't home."

If you're a Real Estate Agent, this ️ basically describes your profession... horribly.

September is Realtor Safety Month but the potential risks of "stranger danger,” are a daily reality. Realtors are a uniquely vulnerable group of professionals.

Working as a property manager, I've experienced some creepy and sometimes terrifying situations with tenants and prospects. Fortunately, I exited those situations, in part, by thinking ahead. At the risk of sounding paranoid, everyone should have a set of mental guidelines you practice when showing a property.

New agents, especially, please read on....

Have a Safety Plan. I follow the same plan every day, with every customer, every single time so that I am as prepared as possible if necessary.  Tips to integrate into your plan:

1.       Always Tell Somebody where you are going, who you are meeting, and when they can expect you to check back in.

2.       Customers Always Go Ahead of You. When showing a home, direct the client to go ahead of you and remain close to the exit.

3.       Take Advantage of FREE Training. These upcoming Virtual Sessions  are free to HCAR members to help you with your plan:

·         9/17/21 @ 9:30 - 11:30AM:  REALTOR Safety= Smart Business 2CE

·         9/28/21 @ 2:30 - 3:30PM:  Your Safety is Non-Negotiable: The Beverly Carter Story

4.       Keep up with FREE Tech Tools and Apps....

·        SafeShowings App: Free Download offered by Florida Realtors to all  members.

·         Resources for Personal Protection from NAR

·         See Something Send Something App: from NAR

·         HomeSnapPro: Free for all Realtors

The Takeaway? Always be aware of potential dangers you may face on the job so that you are prepared if you ever need to be. Create and practice a safety plan that you follow every day, every time, with each customer to reduce risks, and so that you return home to your family every night.
